Consistency is key whether strength training for sport or for general health, and whether running for competition or for fitness.

Quality of movement is essential for consistency.

It’s easy to stress a body. But for stress to be helpful, intention and purpose is crucial.

I love helping clients develop the skills to develop quality in their movement.

Offerings

strength consultation

Much more of an educator than someone you’ll meet with as a personal trainer on a weekly basis, I offer detailed instruction to those wanting to learn to move well with foundational bodyweight exercises, while loading the barbell, and everything in between.

With so many strength coaching options available today, I see many getting instruction on what to do but not getting helpful feedback on their movement quality. If you have a home strength routine, use an online coach or app, or work with another trainer in gyms and want some outside assistance, I have a good eye for what’s working well and what can be improved upon. Sometimes clients need minor tweaks. Oftentimes we need to regress to some basic stability exercises so the body can better support the strength being asked of it. Building strong foundations goes far to keep you consistent in movement.

running form consultation

My interest in quality of movement for performance, longevity and injury prevention started with running and massage—years spent working on runners while watching them move, wondering about the causes of their discomfort or injury. Training load and intensity obviously plays a major role, but many movement patterns and inefficiencies loop back to strength. Runners can get caught up in the miles, but the time spent working on stability and strength in the body wins the runner the ability to keep the miles coming.

I offer nothing fancy when working with runners on technique. We go outside and I watch them run on flats, up and downhill. We might work on some concepts while outside, or we might go straight back into the studio to discuss what ought to be happening in the body.

For many runners, unlearning things they have been trying to do is a first step—relaxing and not trying to correct things. For most, I suggest some increased strength or stability, usually things to be improved upon outside of the actual time spent running.

run coaching consultation

Since I’m no longer coaching runners in a standard fashion, many clients find value in meeting periodically for a consultation to work on anything related to their run program. We discuss where to start for beginners, or for those returning from injury. Or we review a run program you’ve designed, or work on one together. We talk about realistic and stretch goals, mindset in training or racing, review strength or technique, and whatever it is that could be helpful.

I love that so many runners have coaches today, however I think a lot can be learned by being a self coached athlete and I love helping runners navigate when needing a little assistance along the way.
